Meet your hosts…Carrie and The CMJ Group

Carrie Melissa Jones, founder of The CMJ Group, is an author, creator, , and strategist whose work is dedicated to community and belonging. Named by Salesforce as one of three community experts to follow, Jones has been building online communities since the early days of web forums and chat technology. 

Today, her work influences the world’s leading brands and organizations, including Airbnb, Discord, Google, Microsoft, and two US presidential campaigns.  

The CMJ Group (made up of Carrie, Kelly Shetron, Meredith Rhylander, and a lovely team of co-leaders) teaches and guides brands through the application of digital leadership, community building, and community strategy. We have worked with organizations including the American Medical Association, Equinix, The Ken Blanchard Companies, Project Management Institute, Patreon, Microsoft, and many more. Together, these brands connect well over 100 million people worldwide.

Carrie’s book, Building Brand Communities: How Organizations Succeed by Creating Belonging, co-written with bestselling author Charles Vogl, helps leaders understand and explore the concepts of authentic community building. Building Brand Communities is the recipient of the gold medal in Networking & Communication from the Axiom Business Book Awards in 2020. 

Beginning in 2014, Jones served as co-founder and COO of CMX Media. CMX (acquired by Bevy Labs in 2019) provides forums, events, and content for community builders around the world. It now boasts a 20,000-person and growing membership.

THE COMMUNITY I MANAGE IS PRETTY NICHE WITH UNIQUE CHALLENGES. CAN THE CMJ COMMUNITY STILL HELP?

Every community has its unique characteristics, BUT they all operate on the same foundational principles. You will learn these principles to meet the individual needs of your community. You will also have the opportunity to ask your specific questions during the bi-monthly coaching calls, which will be conducted by Carrie. So, yes, The CMJ Community can help with any unique, weird, and wild community challenges you may face. We have seen (almost) everything, so you can count on us to provide the support you need.

I’M WORRIED I DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THIS. 

We hear you. But you might waste even more time spinning your wheels without the support and wisdom of a community like this to help you bypass avoidable mistakes. And, you don’t have to participate in everything the CMJ Community has to offer in order to get a huge benefit. Even just showing up to co-working sessions alone, for example, might give you the accountability you need to take your community to the next level. 

CAN I JOIN IF I DON’T YET HAVE A COMMUNITY?

Absolutely! But membership will be most valuable to you if you know you’re going to launch a community in the next few months and have a general idea of who you want to serve and what you/your business needs. You’ll access launch tools and resources, can ask your questions during coaching calls, and will learn from peers who have been through it. 

WHEN WILL EVENTS HAPPEN?

We do our best to design our calendar to accommodate a variety of time zones, including our friends in the EU, Asia, Australia, and NZ. We’ll make calendar adjustments based on demand (and we welcome members to self-organize with our support!), and all events will be recorded and available to members at any time. 

WHAT IS THE INVESTMENT?

Enrollment options are $99/month, $279/quarter, or $1,098 per year—you get a free month when you choose the yearly option!

Besides the region-based parity pricing mentioned above, there are some scholarship and work-study opportunities.

We recognize the importance of building and maintaining a strong community, especially for those without institutional financial backing. We are committed to supporting you—and all community builders—as you do this vital work.

CAN I CANCEL AT ANY TIME?

Yes, you may cancel your membership at any time. Once you cancel, you will not be charged for the following month, quarter, or year (depending on the option you chose at sign-up). The amount you have already paid cannot be refunded, but there is a 7-day trial so you can take a look around to ensure this is the right fit for you. HOW LONG DO I GET ACCESS FOR?

As long as you are a paying community member, you will have access to everything it offers, from resources, events, the mentorship program, coaching calls, self-led courses, and so on. You may leave the community anytime (see cancellation policy above).
